I think the message is controversial because it has to do with an entire religion and the views of the pope of that religion. People aren't used to having politics and religion mix. They don't want their religions to be viewed as any less significant than any other religion.

I think prisoners should be allowed to vote depending on the crime they have  made. During time served, I don't think felons should be allowed to vote, but after they have served the time for their punishment, they should be  allowed.

1. I think it was wrong of them to make workers work on a holiday just because they are greedy for money. If they wanted to open the store, they should have asked people if they would volunteer. I think the volunteers should've gotten a bonus for working that day too since it was a holiday. I don't think as a store owner that it is very responsible to not schedule something like that way ahead to make sure they had it all planned out. You shouldn't make last minute decisions.

2. I don't really understand what the big deal was. If they wanted to wear rainbow colors to stand up for their rights and what they believe in, they should be allowed. Descrimination should be in the law and nobody should be allowed to make someone feel like they can't be who they want to be if they aren't hurting anyone.

Origins  (to 1800)

Antifederalists: The beliefs of the Antifederalists are that they thought that the Constitution took too much power away from the states and did not guarantee rights for people. Some Antifederalists thought that a strong president might be declared king. People who supported it were the group that supported the colonial union.

Whigs: The Whigs began as the anti-Jackson/anti-VanBuren party. They favored the restoration of the national bank. They were against the annexation of Texas. In 1844,they officially favored a proposal to ban slavery in the territory newly acquired from Mexico but their candidate, Taylor was a big-time slave owner and made no promises to support this proposal. In 1852 they supported the Compromise of 1850 including the controversial fugitive slave law which forced free states to return runaway slaves to their owners even though they were against slavery. The great aristocratic families supported the whigs.

1860-1932

Persuasive Essay

Playing Time

Should coaches be required to give athletes on the secondary school level regardless of their skill? In my opinion, I don’t think so. The players that play the most are usually the ones that do their hardest at practice. Also, colleges will notice the better players if they are on the floor as much as they should be. Students know what it takes to be on the floor as much as possible.

Players work harder if they want to be on the floor. It gives the other players something to work towards to make them better. If you have your best players on the floor and you’re winning games, your school and players will get noticed. Some kids have looked forward to getting a scholarship their whole lives because their passion is to play the sport they love. If coaches played the kids that weren’t as good as much as the better players, it’s ruining something that the better players could have achieved.

I agree that you should give every kid a chance on the floor to prove themselves, but all of that really starts at practice. There are a lot of talented kids that do sit on the bench most of the game regardless of their skill because coaches sometimes choose favorites. I don’t think a coach should be able to do that because the players with a lot of skill aren’t getting anywhere. Sometimes it seems as if even if some of the players prove themselves in practice, the coach refuses to believe that it wasn’t just luck.

If you have a better skilled player on your team, you should play them. The coaches that don’t are only hurting the team. I agree that every kid should get a little bit of playing because the better players always need to have a little break or they won’t play as well. The players who aren’t playing as much know what it takes to be on the floor. All they have to do is work harder to get better and they should get more playing time.

In conclusion, I agree with the way coaches get to pick playing time. There are other alternatives than playing a school sport. It is a players choice of where they want to play. If they choose school ball, they need to work to their highest potential. If they are just playing a community sport, I think the coaches should give equal playing time, but not in a school situation.

1. Yes, the girls should be charged. Obviously, they tormented the girl enough to kill herself, so they should feel the same torment in a juvenile detention facility.

2.  The gravity of the crime and it's effect is the major difference. Also, the charge and punishment are a deciding factor on the difference issue.

3.  I think we should either lessen the punishment to the kids that fight back to bullying, or increase the punishment to the ones who are doing the bullying. Make an example out of the bullies and see if that changes anything. Plus, if we lessen the punishment of those who fight back, that may fix something. Truth hurts, but there's a big difference between lying down and taking it or a swift punch in the face.

Martin Luther King Quote

"Free at last, Free at last, Thank God almighty we are free at last."

I think Martin Luther King, Jr. meant that it is finally the day the blacks have been waiting for. It was like a dream come true for them. In this time period, it was a big deal for this to happen. There was probably a lot of disagreements during this period. It was a big day for the black community, and this speech is still a part of today.

I think it is ridiculous that they wouldn't seat them after waiting for 2 hours. A manager doesn't have the right to tell someone that they can't be seated just because they simply don't want to. I thought racism was pretty much over by this time period. The manager should be fired and if not, the restaurant should be shut down. The manager seems like they don't care about getting service because just because one person says they're threatened, while there is a 25 people party coming into their restaurant.

Martin Luther King, Jr. was a strong man for sticking up for what he believed in back then. He strived to earn freedom for him and for all the blacks. It is surprising that someone would do that knowing that anything could happen to them during or after the speech. He talks with a passionate voice and seems to have no worries that anybody can stop him from taking up for himself or the blacks. I think he is right that people should be judged by their character, not their color.
